What happens to your photos
LabelOp Retouch is local-first by architecture, not by policy. Decoding, AI inference, compositing and export all run inside your browser tab on your own GPU. The app has no backend to send anything to.
Never leaves your device
- Photos you open, drop or paste into the editor
- The edits you make — layers, masks, adjustments, history
- The files you export
What does leave
AI model weights
One-time downloads of open-source models (MIT or Apache-2.0) from Hugging Face, cached by your browser so they work offline afterwards. Your images are never part of these requests.
That is all
There is no backend, no database, no analytics, no error reporting and no account system in this app.
Verify it yourself
Open your browser DevTools, switch to the Network tab, and load a photo into the editor. After the models are cached you will not see a single request. You can also unplug your network and keep editing.
Metadata on export
Exports are re-encoded from canvas pixels: camera EXIF — including GPS coordinates — is stripped by default. Image orientation is applied, so photos still come out upright.

Clearing local data
Downloaded models can be removed in the editor under the Models tab. Your session autosave lives in the browser's OPFS storage and disappears when you clear site data for this app.
